Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in NGOs refers to the processes used to track progress, measure impact, and improve the effectiveness of projects and programs.
Monitoring is the continuous, day-to-day process of collecting and analyzing information to check if activities are being implemented as planned. It answers the question: Are we doing things right?
Evaluation is the periodic assessment of a project’s results and impact, often at the mid-point or end of a project. It answers: Are we doing the right things, and are they working?
Together, M&E helps NGOs ensure accountability, learn from their work, and make informed decisions for future planning.
